The Serial Southerner tour comes with an extra serving of hot chilli mountain sauce! This RunAways trip is truly mountainous; specially designed for those looking for a hot challenge.

The Serial Southerner combines five memorable mountain ascents over five consecutive days into monumental trail adventure. Conquer Roys Peak, Breast Hill, Isthmus Peak, Mueller Hut ascent and Ben Lomond with us and earn well the rewards of a recovery soak in pure New Zealand mountain lakes and delicious post mountain feasts!

WWe guarantee epic mountains, breathtaking views and memories to make even the most settled yearn for more adventures!

We will cover approximately 85km over five consecutive days of ascents and roughly 6000 metres of elevation, sandwiched between arrival and departure days either side.

Difficulty This is our hardest tour and a very worthy challenge! Our style remains holiday-esque, so don’t bring your game face except when facing the mountain itself. RunAways are holidays tours. We encourage anyone with the stamina to join our tours. While our tours are physically very demanding, speed is irrelevant and we are non-competitive. This isn’t a training camp, it’s a holiday, just like no other! If you have any questions about your fitness, please get in touch.

Itinerary Summary

  • Day 1 | Arrival: Start with first meet up at Queenstown Airport. Meet team and tour briefing.
  • Day 2 | Roys Peak Ascent: An early start to catch sunrise at the summit. Then Wanaka recreation and/or down time.

  • Day 3 | Breast Hill Track: Soar above Lake Hawea as you ascend Breast Hill. Post ascent there will be time enough for relaxation, or take part in a recovery session with Coach Will.

  • Day 4 | Isthmus Peak: Tackle this often overlooked but worthy mountain nice and early. After the activity, pack and collect luggage and depart for Mt Cook.

  • Day 5 | Mueller Hut Ascent: Take the ‘stairway to heaven’ for our an unforgettable final climb in what can be some of the most stunning views you’ll get on tour (weather pending!). Travel back to Queenstown and rest.

  • Day 6 | Ben Lomond: The iconic Ben Lomond ascent right at the doorstep of Queenstown. Followed up with an afternoon of leisure and celebratory dinner at the Skyline Gondola buffet (at own expense – optional)

  • Day 7 | Tour End. Group bus available for drop offs at Christchurch Airport or for those staying on in Christchurch, their nearby accommodation.
